Description:
Printed proof of an illustration for a 1946 edition of The Complete Poems and Stories of Edgar Allan Poe, published by Knopf in New York. This drawing is likely meant to accompany the short story, The Telltale Heart. Two hooded figures in brown and black stand within an abstract landscape composed of large white blocks. In the background, on the horizon, at left, a broken, white column. To the right of the column, a flagpole with two white flags. The ground of the image is brown with a dark blue sky.
