Description:
Printed proof of an illustration for a 1929 edition Arnold Bennett’s book, Elsie and the Child. Two figures stand in front of a seated figure seen only from behind, in the foreground. The room in which they stand has green walls, and a chandelier hanging from the ceiling, at left. At right, an open doorway, through which stairs can be seen leading up. Above the door, a sign with blue lettering and illegible text.
