Description:
Design for an altar. The altar has a wide base of a richly veined marble and has four large statues of male Christian saints or martyrs. There is another sculpted group of Christ descended from the cross, supported by winged angels and a cloud, atop a pedestal. This group is under a baldachin supported by winged angels. The pedestal is supported by four veined columns with Corinthian capitals. The plate is signed and numbered, and a graphite inscription at the bottom of the page indicates that this design was from a project for the altar of the abbey of St. Germain-des-Prés.
