Description:
Landscape sketch showing a view of the town in Colombia known as Puracé, and the deeply cut valley atop which it is situated. In the foreground at lower center, a rocky pinnacle is shown covered in vegetation. It rises from near the valley floor, where a river visibly winds through the rugged terrain. The valley walls at left and right are extremely steep and create several "V" formations in the middle distance at left. At center, an area with lots of exposed rock is highlighted in white gouache. Beside this area right, several buildings in the town of Puracé are visible on flat terrain atop the valley rim, which extends to the right. In the background at center left, a large, bulging mountain with two sharp summits is visible (this is not the volcano Puracé, which is out of view at right). Other rolling, mountainous terrain is shown in the background at right.
