Description:
Landscape and seascape sketch overlooking the ocean from an elevated perspective atop a cliff on Great Head in Mt. Desert Island, Maine. In the foreground, the dark and rugged rocks that comprise the cliffs are visible at left and right, with a small inlet of ocean water between them. The ocean's rippling surface extends from the middle distance to the flat horizon in the background, where the white sails of three boats are barely visible. Above, the sky is predominately filled with grey clouds. The lateritious (brick-colored) ground is visible along the lower margin.
