Description:
Landscape sketch showing a view overlooking Rome, as seen form the south bank of the River Tiber. In the foreground at left, a grassy bluff lines the nearby riverbank, while the river itself reflects the shapes of the buildings beside it. At center, in the middle distance, the massive, rounded walls of the Castel Sant'Angelo are visible. A small, though still significant structure--Claude Lorrain's villa--is visible at right. The surrounding city landscape is indistinctly rendered. In the background, the horizon gently arches beneath a purple and blue sky.
