Biographical History:
Walter P. Taylor (1888-1972) was born in Elkhorn, Wisconsin, October 31, 1888. He attended Throop Polytechnique Institute, Stanford University, and University of California, Berkeley, where he earned his Ph.D. His scientific interests covered several aspects of natural sciences including ornithology and conservation. He was assistant curator of mammals at Museum of Vertebrate Zoology at University of California, Berkeley, and later curator of mammals. In 1916, he joined the U.S. Biological Survey as Assistant Biologist, eventually becoming Senior Biologist in 1951 with the Fish & Wildlife Service, U.S. Department of the Interior. He also taught at various universities and colleges throughout his career. He was married to Clara K. Taylor. Taylor passed away March 29, 1972 in La Vern, California.
