Biographical History:
Lyster H. Dewey was born on March 14, 1865 in Cambridge, Michigan. He studied at Michigan Agricultural College (now Michigan State College) where he later taught botany, before becoming an assistant botanist with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). While at the USDA he studied grasses as well as fiber plants, including hemp and flax. He retired in 1935. Dewey studied botanicals around the world including but not limited to Central America, Caribbean, Hawaiian Islands and South East Asia. Dewey married Etta Conkling in 1889. Dewey passed away November 27, 1944 in Kenmore, New York.
