This round pinback button expressed women support for David Dinkins's mayoral campaign in 1989. Dinkins, who served as New York City's first Black mayor from 1990 to 1993, fought for racial unity and inclusivity. The button features white lettering on a plum background reading "Women for / Dinkins / for Unity".
The button is among more than 200 collected by Washington, DC-based environmental justice advocate Vernice Miller-Travis.
