This round pinback button expressed opposition to Pepco's plan to build two oil-fueled turbine generators at its power plant near the River Terrace neighborhood in Washington, DC. With this white on red pin, citizens protested the proposal's environmental impact in an already much polluted area of the city. The plant, known as Benning Service Center, was demolished by Pepco in 2015.
The button is among more than 200 collected by Washington, DC-based environmental justice advocate Vernice Miller-Travis.
