This rectangular pinback button with rounded corners commemorated the tenth anniversary of the North Star Fund, a community foundation working for social justice in New York City and the Hudson Valley. The pin features a drawing of a yellow shooting star across a city skyline in white and blue. Below the star, a quotation from Fredereick douglass reads "Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will. If there is no struggle, there is no progress".
The button is among more than 200 collected by Washington, DC-based environmental justice advocate Vernice Miller-Travis.
