Caption:
A broad, undulating inlaid band decorates the lid of this carved wooden box. The lighter shade of wood sets the curvilinear design apart from the rest of the container’s dark stained wood. Embodying both aesthetic and practical storage functions, this box demonstrates artist Ira Blount’s ability to transform ordinary objects into works of art.
After moving to Washington, DC following World War II, Ira Blount mastered dozens of artisanal crafts. His love for crafting, learning, and community engagement would endure over the course of his long life and career.
