Collection History:
Formerly owned by James Phillips (Cattaraugus Seneca, ca. 1862-1931) and his wife Eliza Phillips (Cattaraugus Seneca, 1855-1938); salvaged from the ruins of their house, which burned in 1929, by their adopted son Fred Ninham (Tah-hoh-ghen-jok/Gah-noh-dah-gioh, Oneida, 1900-1962); purchased from Fred Ninham by Joseph Keppler, Jr. (1872-1956, a long-time friend of George Heye) in 1935; lent to MAI by Joseph Keppler in 1939; purchased by MAI from Joseph Keppler in 1947.
