Collection history unknown; part of a collection assembled by Manuel B. Zavaleta (1862-1925, an Argentine police chief and public official) of material excavated and looted from archaeological sites in Argentina in the 1880s and 1890s; exhibited as part of Manuel Zavaleta's collection at the Louisiana Purchase Exposition in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1904; purchased by the Field Museum of Natural History (Chicago, Illinois) from Manuel Zavaleta in 1904 or 1905; acquired by MAI through an exchange with the Field Museum in 1918.
