Collection History:
Excavated in 1892 by anthropologist George A. Dorsey (1868-1931, curator of Chicago's Field Museum of Natural History) during investigations in South America for the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition (also called The Chicago World's Fair); transferred to the Field Museum of Natural History (Chicago, Illinois) when it was founded in 1894; acquired by MAI through an exchange with the Field Museum in 1918.
