Collection History:
Between 1945 and 1949, the Indian Arts and Crafts Board commissioned artist William Spratling to draw upon his successes in revitalizing Mexican silver jewelry and decorative items and develop a line of products that could be reproduced by Alaskan Native workers. Following the failure of the project, Spratling's models became part of the IACB Headquarters collection (Department of the Interior, Washington, DC) and remained there until 2000 when the collection was transferred to NMAI.
