Said to have been collected by members of the Eastgate family, many of whom lived in the Spirit Lake area in the late nineteenth century; inherited by Helen Eastgate Whitaker (Mrs. Simon P. Whitaker, 1857-1945) of Orange County, New York and subsequently by her daughter Anna Whitaker Slaughter (Mrs. Eugene W. Slaughter, 1887-1972); donated to MAI by Mrs. Slaughter in 1970 in memory of Helen Eastgate Whitaker.
