Formerly owned by Charles Jim (Charles Anishinaba, Potawatomi, b. 1889); collected from him at an unknown date by Indian art collector David T. Vernon (1900-1973); acquired by MAI in 1968 through an exchange with the Jackson Hole Preserve, Inc. (a foundation backed by the Rockefeller family), which purchased Vernon's entire collection in 1965.
