Collection History:
Purchased for MAI from Mrs. Roberts (Anadarko, Oklahoma, possibly one of the owners of Roberts Indian Crafts and Supplies) by MAI director Frederick J. Dockstader (1912-1998) in 1968; identified at that time as the former property of Poor Buffalo (possibly Mathew Poor Buffalo, Oglala Lakota, c. 1866-1929), but "Poor Buffalo" probably refers to the Kiowa leader Pa'ta'dal (ca. 1840-1903) who led the Kiowa Ghost Dance and was called Lean Bull or Poor Buffalo by non-Indians.
