Collected by Theodore Fihn (1871-1936, an Indian agent or agency assistant at Rosebud circa 1910); formerly in the collection of Indian art collector David T. Vernon (1900-1973); acquired by MAI in 1968 through an exchange with the Jackson Hole Preserve, Inc. (a foundation backed by the Rockefeller family), which purchased Vernon's entire collection in 1965.
