Collection History:
Said to have been collected from a member of Goyathlay's (Geronimo, ca. 1825-1909) band at the time of his surrender in 1886; formerly in the collection of Indian art collector David T. Vernon (1900-1973); acquired by MAI in 1967, possibly through an exchange with the Jackson Hole Preserve, Inc. (a foundation backed by the Rockefeller family), which purchased Vernon's entire collection in 1965.
