Formerly owned by Chief Holy Horse (Tasunka Wakan, Hunkpapa Lakota, ca. 1846-1940) and said to have been worn by him during a visit to New York City in the 1850s; collected from him circa 1920 by Margaret R. Elliott (1887-1976) while she worked as a nurse and missionary in Cannon Ball, North Dakota; purchased by MAI from Miss Elliott in 1963.
