Collected in 1899 during the E.H. Harriman Expedition to Alaska (sponsored by railroad magnate Edward Henry Harriman [1848-1909]) by members of the W.H. Averell family who participated in the expedition, namely William Holt Averell (1849-1904), his wife Mary Buell Averell (1853-1937), and their daughter Elizabeth Buell Averell (Mrs. James C. Rogerson, 1881-1938); formerly in the collection of Elizabeth Rogerson; donated to MAI by Mrs. Rogerson in 1936.
