Collection History:
Probably collected between 1909 and 1913 by Joseph Kossuth Dixon (1856-1926, a photographer and filmmaker) during his work on the "Wanamaker Expedition of Citizenship," which was sponsored by Rodman Wanamaker (1863-1928, of the Wanamaker department stores) to present American flags to 189 tribes and emphasize the importance of Native citizenship; purchased by MAI from Joseph Dixon's widow, Edith R. Dixon (1891-1969), in 1927.
