Said to have been collected circa 1780 near Philadelphia; formerly in the collection of James Moody, an Adirondack guide; given to the Cowling family of Seneca Falls, New York, by James Moody about the time of the Civil War; transferred to the Rochester Municipal Museum (now the Rochester Museum and Science Center) at an unknown date; acquired by MAI through an exchange with the Rochester Municipal Museum in 1925.
