An interview of Henry Strater conducted 1971 October 8, by Robert F. Brown, for the Archives of American Art.
Strater reminisces about his early life in Kentucky and his studies. He recalls newspaper experience, travel, and service with the American Red Cross in World War I and the Navy in World War II. He describes the Academie Julien and the Art Students League, as well as the Ogunquit Summer ArtSchool. Strater speaks about his own work, and the exhibitions and galleries that have marked his career. Strater also recalls Ernest Hemingway, Scott Fitzgerald, Ezra Pound, Kuniyoshi, and others.
