Summary:
Shows Millet (fifth from left, in dark suit) and his assistants kneeling on the mural in his 1256 Wisconsin Avenue, Washington, DC studio, which he called his Art Factory. <br>The mural, titled <em>The history of shipping from the earliest recorded use of boats until the present time</em> was installed in the Baltimore Customs House in 1908. <br>Identification on verso (handwritten): F.D. Millet Studio working on ceiling. <br> Identification on slip of paper taped to verso (typewritten): Francis D. Millet (1846-1912). Millet in business suit is shown here in his studio. He is the best known of the American painters who studied in Antwerp and his greatest contribution to American painting was his organization of the murals for the Columbian Exposition in Chicago in 1893. <br> Outer edge of photograph has framing damage.
