Summary:
Tape 04, Side 02 is blank. Recording has hum. Portions of recording have a fluttering noise and some speech is muffled. Ruth Fine interviews Joshua Smith. Discussion topics are wide-ranging and include Smith's career as a collector of photography and prints, principles of collecting, energy of the international art scene in New York City in the early 1980s, art dealers, printmakers. Discussion topics on Tapes 02-04 center on artists featured in the exhibition <em>The 1980s: Prints From the Collection of Joshua P. Smith</em>, which was held at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., December 17, 1989 April 8, 1990. The exhibition was curated by Ruth Fine. Artists discussed include Richard Bosman, Gregory Amenoff, Richard Artschwager, Jennifer Bartlett, Jasper Johns, Steven Campbell, Georg Baselitz, Francesco Clemente, Elizabeth Murray.
