Summary:
The papers of Joseph D. Ketner II measure 16.4 linear feet and date from 1953-2017. The papers consist of material Ketner generated during his various curatorial positions and include research material organized by project, artists files, exhibition files, notes for lectures, publication-related materials (many on CD), professional correspondence and administrative files. A portion of the papers relates to artist Robert S. Duncanson. Ketner published and lectured frequently about Duncanson and organized the definitive exhibition and publication on Duncanson,"The Emergence of the African American Artist: Robert S. Duncanson" (University of Missouri, 1993).

Biography Note:
Joseph D. Ketner II (1955-2018) was a curator and art historian in the Boston area. Ketner served as the Henry and Lois Foster Chair in Contemporary Art Theory and Practice and Curator-in-Residence at Emerson College, Boston, Massachusetts; Chief Curator of the Milwaukee Art Museum, Milwaukee, Wisconsin; The Henry and Lois Foster Director of The Rose Art Museum, Brandeis University, Walthum, Massachusetts; Curator, then Director, Washington University Gallery of Art, St. Louis, Missouri; and Curator at the Fort Wayne Museum, Indiana.
