Summary:
Papers concerning Goodyear's interest in painter and friend Arthur C. Goodwin, including her biography of Goodwin, her efforts to promote his work, and her involvement in his estate.
Included are Goodyear's unpublished typescript about Goodwin and Goodyear "Defiant Dreamers," and rejection letters, 1960 and 1965, from publishers considering its publication; correspondence, ca. 1942-1948, regarding the estate, with lawyer George Moesel, Louis Joseph, dealer Paul Rosenberg, Henry Sayles Francis, W. G. Constable, Harriet R. Cabot, Grace W. Mayer, Frederic A. Sweet, Audrey McMahon, Victor Sparks, Giovanni Castano, art critic Lionello Venturi, dealer Daniel Wildenstein, and others; inventories of oil paintings and pastels in the estate; contracts; photographs of paintings by Goodwin; clippings; exhibition catalogs; and miscellany.

Biography Note:
Goodyear was a friend of painter Arthur C. Goodwin (birthdate listed variously between 1863 and 1869) and an active promoter of his work, organizing several exhibitions of his work and writing a book about his struggles as an artist. Upon Goodwin's death in 1929 she was the sole beneficiary of his artistic estate. Goodyear was married to painter Raphael Doktor. Her father was William H. Goodyear, a curator at at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Brooklyn Museum.
