Biography Note:
The Charlton Art Gallery (est. 1977) was a commercial art gallery in San Antonio, Texas founded by Anne Alexander. Located downtown along the San Antonio River, the gallery primarily exhibited work by local and regional artists as well as artists from Mexico. Prior to opening the Charlton Gallery, Anne Alexander co-founded the Sol del Rio Gallery with Dorothy Katz, maintaining co-ownership from 1968 to 1973.
Artists who exhibited work at the Charlton Gallery include Marilyn Lanfear, Brad Braune, Richard Wawro, Marcia Gygli King, Dan Mitchell Allison, and Feliciano Bejar. Alexander also frequently showed work by faculty members at the University of Texas at San Antonio and San Antonio College. Alexander served as president of the gallery into the 1980s.

The records were microfilmed in 1982 as part of the Archives of American Art's Texas project and returned to Anne Alexander after filming.
