Summary:
Selected materials from the following record groups: School; Exhibitions; Special Events; Permanent Collecton; Pennsylvania Academicians and Associates; Administration; Secretary and Managing Director; Board of Directors; Stockholders Association; Building; Public Relations; Photographs; and Oversize.
Included in the School records are student registers, prize winners, address books, faculty minutes, and school catalogs for both the School in Philadelphia and the school at Chester Springs. Exhibiton materials include registers of works received for exhibition, annual and special exhibition catalogs, and sale records. Among the Board Minutes filmed are the Committee on Instruction and the Committee on Exhibitions. The Photographs include views of the various Academy buildings including the Frank Furness building at Broad and Cherry Streets, students, classes, and exhibitions.

Biography Note:
Art academy and museum; Philadelphia, Pa. Founded in 1805. Exhibitions and classes began 1811. Annual competitions ceased in 1969. Academy instructors and students include Thomas Eakins, Cecilia Beaux, William Merritt Chase, Violet Oakley, Henry O. Tanner, Rembrandt Peale, and Thomas Sully. An art school was established in Chester Springs, Pa. from 1917 to 1952.
