Summary:
The records of the Federal Music Project date from 1934 to 1943. Found are applications and proposals, correspondence, and final reports concerning the collection and duplication of music written by American composers and the Pan-American Union.

Biography Note:
The Federal Music Project was a New Deal program under the Works Progress Administration. The Pan American Union worked with the Federal Music Project and developed projects like the music-copying project. The Philadelphia unit of the copying project reproduced scores of Latin-American compositions which were deposited in the Edwin A. Fleischer collection of the Free Library of Philadelphia.

Provenance:
Theodore A. Seder, a curator of the Edwin A. Fleisher Music Collection where many of the reproduced manuscripts are housed, loaned the records to the Archives of American Art and the records were returned after filming.
