Biography Note:
James Stovall Morris (1898-1973) was a painter in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Morris moved to Santa Fe after studying art in Cincinnati, Ohio and helped to establish an art colony. Later, he moved to New York to study at the Art Students League. By the mid-1930s, he had returned to New Mexico and participated in the Federal Art Project, Works Progress Administration.

Provenance:
The papers were loaned to the Archives of American Art for microfilming by James Morris and were returned after filming. The materials appear to be from a personal scrapbook, perhaps Morris's own, but the origin is uncertain.
