Research material on Mark Tobey and for publications by Cummings, including Dictionary of Contemporary Artists (1st through 6th ed.) and American Drawings - the 20th Century; letters; subject files; and printed material.
Research material for a projected catalog raisonne on Mark Tobey, ca. 1967-1972, including forms identifying the owners and locations of Tobey paintings, summary cards and biographical notes, extracts from published sources quoting Tobey, photographs and slides. Also included art research materials for Cummings's DICTIONARY OF CONTEMPORARY AMERICAN ARTISTS, (2nd through 6th ed., 1977-1994), including questionnaires, dossiers, and other biographical information about contemporary artists, and letters; and for AMERICAN DRAWINGS: The 20th CENTURY (1976), including correspondence, data on drawings, and a draft and final version of the book. Also included are 50 letters and two printed announcements; files on Whitney Museum of American Art projects, Sara Roby Foundation (AFA), exhibition files, and manuscripts.
