Correspondence, consisting primarily of letters from Rolshoven to his parents, Frederick and Theresa Rolshoven; a letter, April 12, 1985, from John H. Worthington to Mrs. Hugh Stalker (the donor's mother), containing 6 clippings about Rolshoven; an exhibition catalog; 3 clippings; a photograph of Rolshoven; and a small wooden paint box.

Biography Note:
Painter, teacher. Son of Frederick and Maria Theresa Bertina Hellings Rolshoven of Detroit, Michigan. In 1878 he moved to Dusseldorf, Germany, studying under Hugo Crola. From 1883 to 1884 he studied under Frank Duveneck in Florence. Rolshoven's works are included in the collections of the Detroit Institute of Arts and in the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, among others.

All but two of the letters are in German.
Provenance:
Donated 1985 by Eleanor Stalker Foster. They were found in the accompanying paint box and purchased at an estate sale in Grosse Point, Michigan by the donor's mother, Mrs. Hugh Stalker. The photocopies of newspaper clippings originated from the files of the Detroit Athletic Club, 241 Madison Avenue, Detroit, Michigan 48226, courtesy of John Worthington and forwarded to the Archives by Foster.
