REELS 834-835: 25 pages of diary entries, some lengthy, about various subjects, 1911-1921; ca. 2,000 pages of reminiscences of Travis's childhood, his friendship with Charles Burchfield and the Burchfield family, his travels and their influences on his painting and his art career; transcripts of Travis's radio talks about the collections at the Cleveland Museum of Art, 1936-1953; drafts and final copies of public addresses on art; poems, essays and short stories by Travis; 2 letters sent (1956 & 1959), one of which is a description of his inspiration for the painting "Aquarium"; and an essay in Charles Burchfield's hand about his experiences at the Cleveland Museum of Art, 1912.
REEL 1122: An essay and a lecture on art, 1958, and 99 letters written by Travis during a sketching trip to Africa, 1927-1928. The letters are written to his wife, to Frank Wilcox, to Henry Turner Bailey while he was Dean of the Cleveland School of Art, and to Grace Kelly of the CLEVELAND PLAIN DEALER. In addition, transcriptions of 95 of the letters which were made by his wife were loaned for microfilming with the original letters.
REEL 3480: 9 letters, 1930-1965, from Charles Burchfield to Paul Travis. Burchfield writes about his artwork, family, art happenings, and being on juries for art shows.
Motion picture films: 16mm films of Travis, his family, pets, travel, and other personal footage; footage from his African travels, 1927-1928 (transferred to video - 3/4", 4 tapes total, 126 min.); and footage from travels in Greece and Italy (transferred to video - 3/4", 1 tape).

Provenance:
Donated 1976-1977 by Mrs. Paul B. Travis, widow of Travis. 16mm motion picture film of Travis' African Travel, and travel to Greece and Italy, was transferred to the Smithsonian's Human Studies Film Archives. where the African footage was copied on to 4 videocassettes (126 minutes total), and the Greece and Italy footage on to one videocassette; copies were made for AAA as well.
