This series documents an exhibition organized by the National Portrait Gallery Education Department, focusing on the African American "Jazz Era" of the 1920s; a
two-part exhibition of African American history in the District of Columbia; and an exhibition focusing on Mary McLeod Bethune. The records include correspondence and memoranda,
loan agreements, exhibition lists and scripts, checklists and catalogs, and photographs.
The Mary McLeod Bethune exhibition was curated by Letitia W. Brown and Elise M. Lewis of Howard University. The other exhibitions were curated by James R. Vivian and Robert
N. Works of the NPG staff.
