Scope and Contents:
Volume 9 is a bound scrapbook with numbered pages and an index in the front of the book with some written notes. There is also a separate booklet in the front of the volume that serves as an index with extensive notes. It does not appear to be written by the same person who made notes throughout the book. The volume is made up of newspaper clippings, handwritten notes, drawings, letters, and illustrations of various construction projects. The main topics included in Volume 9 are the Washington Aqueduct and various construction projects from around the world. The volume feautures illustrations of various size depicting these constructions. There are advertisements and stories on the costs of building materials and on the development of new ones. There are several handwritten notes and letters related to the Washington Aqueduct. Meigs had an interest in real estate transactions as there are several stories about various property sales. Finally, Meigs included several clippings on the question of the water supply to Washington, D.C. and other U.S. cities. Some of the papers represented in this collection areThe Evening Star, The Daily Graphic, the Army and Navy Journal, The New York Herald, and the The New-York Daily Tribune.
