This series, dated 1988 to 2006 and undated, consists of notes, data, publications, grant applications, maps, photographs, and negatives related to Ortner's Medieval Skeletal Disease Project in collaboration with Brian Connell. Most of the data and observations are from specimens from the Leprosarium cemetery in Chichester, England, held in the Biological Anthropology Research Centre of the University of Bradford.
Ortner also collected notes and data on skeletons from Wharram Percy, Hull Magistrates Court, and Blackfriars in Gloucester. Grant applications submitted by Ortner to the Smithsonian Scholarly Studies program, 1993-1994, and to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), 1997-1998, are also included.
