This photograph was taken by Dr. Simon Ottenberg while conducting field research at Afikpo village-group, southeastern Nigeria, from January 30, 1988 to February 5, 1988.
Original caption reads, "Between January 30 and February 5, 1988, I revisited, with my wife Carol, the Igbo group of communities called Afikpo on the Cross River in southeastern Nigeria, .... General view of Afikpo from between the neighboring villages of Amuro and Mgbom, taken on the road that links them. Many new buildings of concrete or cement exist compared to the 1950s, where there were few." [Ottenberg field research notes, January 1988-February 1988].
