Scope and Contents:
The photograph depicts Joseph, age 8, during class at the Catholic Mission school. During his trip to Congo (now Democratic Republic of Congo), Elisofon visited Bunia and its surroundings, near Lake Albert. This photograph was taken when Eliot Elisofon traveled to Africa from March 17, 1970 to July 17, 1970.

Local Note:
Typed index card reads, "O 3 Zai. Zaire. Bunia. Teacher and class in Catholic mission school. Joseph Mokobi, age 8 (second boy from left). 4/1970. EE. neg.no. I-20, 6." The card was written in 1977-79 by Archives staff using source provided by photographer.
