Scope and Contents:
The photograph depicts wives of Nyim Mbopey Mabiintsh ma-Kyeen [Mbop Mabiinc makyen, (Bope Mabinshe)] with body scarifications. [Cornet J., 1982: Art Royal Kuba, Edizioni Sipiel Milano]. This photograph was taken when Eliot Elisofon was on assignment for Life magazine and traveled to Africa from January 8, 1947 to end of June 1947.
