"A Madi mother with her child at a camp on the Albert Nile. The woven basket in which the child is resting can be strapped to the mother's back for easy carrying when they are traveling. The young girl on the right is wearing a simple garment of manioc leaves suspended from her waist in front and back." [Eliot elisofon, Laurens Van Der Post, 1967: The Nile, Viking Press]. During his trip to Sudan, Elisofon visited the Madi people living mainly in northwestern Uganda and southern Sudan. This photograph was taken when Eliot Elisofon was on assignment for Life magazine and traveled to Africa from January 8, 1947 to end of June 1947.
