Female musician speaks of the history and purpose of black music including field hollers or field chants, work songs which told stories, spirituals, and storytelling through music, particularly stories with animals. The musician performs at least one example of each type of music. Specific songs performed include traditional African song titled "The Fox" and a song the musician wrote titled "Autumn Time in Grenada" about the children in Grenada, Mississippi who were killed when they tried to integrate schools.
