Scope and Contents:
Letters are written by over 170 early American artists, including Albert Bierstadt, Frederic E. Church, Frederick S. Church, Constant Mayer, Henry Mosler, Frederick Law Olmsted, Albert Rosenthal, and Anne Whitney. Two letters of interest by Henry Inman and Rembrandt Peale describe opinions on their work and the works of others. There are also letters related to the John Trumbull estate; miscellaneous printed items included with letters; and a selection of letters written by European artists.
Arrangement:
Letters are arranged alphabetically by surname followed by letters from foreign and miscellaneous artists.

Use of original papers requires an appointment.
