Scope and Contents note:
American Folk Art Gallery notebooks contain information about folk art handled by the Downtown Gallery and its American Folk Art Gallery, as well as general information on the subject.
Arrangement note:
The records are arranged by medium: oil paintings; watercolors; drawings; lithographs; fraktur; miscellaneous; paintings on velvet; embroideries; paintings on glass; tinsels; shaker furniture; and sculpture. Those media with extensive files are further subdivided by more specific media type or by subject. The series ends with subject files including notes and photographs of American folk art and other records which were possibly research material for a book.

The microfilm of this collection has been digitized and is available online via the Archives of American Art website.

The Downtown Gallery records are owned by the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution. Rights as possessed by the donor have been dedicated to public use for research, study, and scholarship. The collection is subject to all copyright laws.
