Sotheby's acquired the André Emmerich Gallery in 1996 but only operated it for a couple of years before closing the gallery. This subseries documents the relationship between the gallery and Sotheby's just before and during those years. The subseries includes correspondence with various individuals and departments at Sotheby's, Sotheby's policies and procedures, architectural records and renovation plans, merger plans and announcements, and a videotaped news segment on art smuggling and Sotheby's.
These files are arranged alphabetically by subject and then chronologically.

Use of original papers requires an appointment and is limited to the Archives' Washington, D.C. Research Center.
Access of diaries and appointment books required written permission.
