These records, generated by John C. Ewers, Assistant Director, 1959-1964, and Silvio A. Bedini, Assistant Director, 1965-1972, and Deputy Director, 1972-1978, document the role of these positions within the National Museum of History and Technology (NMHT) administrative hierarchy. A small portion of the records also covers Ewers' position as NMHT Director from 1964 to 1965. Included in these records are files pertaining to the Conservation Analytical Laboratory, the early planning stages of NMHT's involvement in the Bicentennial of the American Revolution (BAR) celebration, and a proposed joint program on the BAR between the National Science Foundation (NSF) and NMHT. Also included are records concerned with the Museum's more routine activities such as NMHT and traveling exhibits, departmental meetings, building management, and budgetary matters. Records include correspondence with other Smithsonian museums, memoranda between museum administrators and curators, reports, requests for use of NMHT facilities, floor plans, minutes of committee meetings, conference proceedings, and legislative history of the Joseph H. Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden. Records are arranged according to special topics or activities.
