Descriptive Entry:
This accession consists of two websites related to Smithsonian Productions as they existed on June 17, 2011. "Remembering Slavery: African Americans Talk about Their Personal Experiences of Slavery and Emancipation" was created in 1997 to accompany the "Remembering Slavery" radio series produced by Smithsonian Productions. It includes audio excerpts from radio programs, transcript excerpts from interviews, and educational resources. The website does not appear to have been updated since 1998 and is in disrepair. "Gardens of the Mughal Empire" went live in 2002. It was initially intended to be the second video in a trilogy about Asian gardens by Smithsonian Productions, but the unit was closed before the video could be produced. Employed as contractors, former Smithsonian Productions staff completed the project as a website. Significant updates were made in 2007. The website, which focuses on the ancient gardens of what is now Pakistan, includes historical information about garden sites, the status of conservation efforts, and educational resources. Materials are in electronic format.
